We’ve seen Telstra and Boost offering a free 5G trial to customers, now TPG is following suit. The trial offers customers on the TPG or iiNet networks, as well as MNVOs Lebara and Kogan mobile free access to 5G services.

As a starting point, any new or existing customers on TPG or iiNet brands with eligible plans will have access to the service. The plans that are eligible include:

  • TPG’s $30 per month Large (45GB of data) SIM Only plan
  • TPG’s $40 per month Extra Large (60GBG of data) SIM Only plan
  • iiNet’s $29.99 per month Large (40GB of data) SIM Only Plan
  • iiNet’s $39.99 per month Extra (55GB of data) Large SIM Only Plan

NB. At the time of writing this, the iiNet plans are down to $20 and $30 per month for the first 6 months. That’s a rather nice value add for users looking for a potential value for money change.

When you move to the MNVO space, there are a couple of offerings with access to 5G; Kogan Mobile and Lebara Mobile. Both networks offer a variety of plans with expiry dates between 30 and 365 days, with data caps starting at 10GB per month through to 500GB across the year.

A spokesperson for TPG said:

We are doing this so more of our customers can experience the next-generation connectivity and speeds that 5G offers.

The usual cautions apply to any mobile service offering including checking the coverage at your location and ensuring you read the terms and conditions of service before signing up. At this stage, the trial runs until October 26th unless extended further.
