Now any developer can make Instant Apps for Android

After announcing Android Instant apps at Google I/O last year, it’s been a slow road to release with an initial pilot group launching the feature. At Google I/O during the Keynote, product manager Ellie Powers announced that any developer can now make their own Android Instant App.

Android Instant Apps, is an option which allows users to utilise functions of an app without the need to fully install it on your device and it was certainly a surprising yet welcome feature – when it finally rolled out.
For an app to become an Instant app, there is some work required. Developers are required to modularise their app, splitting the app into modules allowing functions to work independently of the full app.

Instant apps works on any Android device that runs Android version 6.0 (Marshmallow) or higher, and is available in 40 countries. Google has said that it will continue rolling out Instant Apps to more and more countries, though exact dates and countries was not listed. Google has also said that it will be looking at lowering the required minimum software version to Android 5.0 (Lollipop). Though Google has said in the past that it would be looking at lowering the minimum software versions to possibly Android 4.X – though that seems to have now changed.
