The rumoured launch of Audiobooks on Google Play looks to solidifying and getting closer with users over the weekend reporting a banner appearing on the Google Play Books section of Google Play.
The banner above appeared for a large number of users offering 50% off the first purchase, but the link from the banner unfortunately led to a Page Not Found error page. The banner was appearing for users in the US in both the Google Play app, and on the web, but there was no sign of it here in Australia leading us to believe that Audiobooks could possibly launch as a US-only option, at least at first.
Google has been pretty staid in their intentions to roll out some features – such as Podcasts and widely available UHD movie titles – to users outside of the US, and so far hasn’t been drawn on commenting on when we’ll see those newer categories here.
A teardown by Android Police of the latest version of the Google Play Books app shows that the app is ready to begin playing Audiobooks in that app rather than the Google Play Music app. Combined with the banner in Google Play, it looks like it’s only a matter of time before Google is offering at least some users the option to listen to some of the latest books rather than reading them.
Are you interested in Audiobooks through Google Play?
Yesterday, the banner was showing for me in Google Play but it disappeared today…
I wonder if it DOES come out here, if it’ll be included in the Google Play Music subscription. Heck, I’d pay a little extra to have it added.
Sure would make that subscription even more attractive.
