There are a number of good, free options for content monitoring and management of kids’ screen time. They are, however, somewhat limited in some functionality and what they monitor. The Bark app is a step up with some pretty nifty monitoring solutions to ensure your kid’s safety — including mental health — is maintained online.

As mentioned, the Google Family monitoring is very good but when compared, the Bark app takes it to another level with features including:

  • Content blocking
  • The ability to pause the internet on connected devices
  • Customised rules for bedtime
  • Parental Alerts for dangerous activities and content
  • Excellent screen time scheduling

As a parent who is delving into the world of kids having more access to online services and activities, the protection for them and peace of mind for me seem like something worth exploring.

What monitoring do you use for your kids online activities?

I have a Family Zone licence, it was free back when I got my daughter an OVO SIM. I’m not sure how long it’ll last considering OVO was bought out by amaysim but I’ll keep using it for as long as I can.

I’ve set up Google Family Link for my 7yo’s tablet, seems to work well, I might give this Bark app a try and see how it goes.

As a parent of a 9Y0 boy who is discovering the limitless scope to the internet this is something worth looking into, thanks.
