Telstra has today announced a new bonus for their customers, becoming the first Australian operator to offer calls to 1800 number free of charge from a mobile.
While you’ve been able to call 1800 numbers toll free from a landline for years, the cost of calling from a mobile has still been present, but no longer. Calls to 1800 numbers from a landline will remain free, but Telstra has recognised that more people are using their mobile as their main phone line and have decided to include the service as a bonus to their mobile customers.
The inclusion will be present for both post-paid and pre-paid Telstra customers. Not a bad deal if you’re on the Telstra network.

Very misleading headline. “Telstra makes 1800 numbers free of charge for *SOME* mobile customers” if you please.
Incorrect, Optus has had unlimited calls to 1800 numbers since their new plans launched in June.
I had an Exetel plan for years which included 13 and 1800 numbers in the unlimited calls category, so Telstra are not the first by a long way.
