Once again, our friends over at Techanist.com have got hold of information that suggests (if not says straight out) that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini will be heading to Optus, but instead of a plan, on prepaid.

The price suggested is $349, which is cheaper than some local retailers, and is expected to hit the shelves in the first week of June.

Now I would think this as an out there assumption. But coincidently I was emailed by a Sony Ericsson rep, who informed me and I quote “We have some even bigger smallest news coming along soon.”.

So I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about this little beauty.

I like the Xperia X10 Mini but I prefer the pro. It’s only $149 on Telstra pre-paid. Pretty good deal even though Telstra can be kind of dodgy in regards to data but I must admit they are bringing out some good deals right now.

Just had a commenter on my site alerting me to the fact that Optus today have added the X10 mini to post-paid on their site at $49.

What’s with the hate on the Moto phones? The quench at that pricepoint seems to be a great plan phone, and has been reviewed well everywhere I’ve seen.

This thing has a tinsy screen which would make a large number of Android Apps unusable would it not? Hence reducing the usefulness of having an Android phone by a large amount.

Also, the reviews mention quite a number of cool features in the Moto software in regards to the media player etc. which I don’t see in other phones.

So why the hate?

Its crap because its running Android 1.5

Also having worked in Tandy/DSE for many years Moto phones had the highest failure rate by far.

It’s not just others saying it, you say so yourself:

“If the Devour was to make it’s way over here, I’m sure Optus have already signed a deal with Motorola to make sure they snare every possible, terrible, device that comes this way.”

Are these devices really that bad?

I know they’re running 1.5, but they have been promised at least a 2.1 update this year, so if that happens you have a super cheap and very capable android phone for not much money.

You would think that the crappy moto phones would be the prepaid and this would be on a plan.

Fingers crossed, but it would compete with the DEXT and the Quench, which at this stage I don’t think they want to do, but I think it would certainly help the adoption of Android and that can only be a good thing 🙂

hopefully if it is that cheap on prepaid they will put it on a 19 or 29 cap aswell.
