Amongst all the announcements at CES (and before-events), which we’ll cover if we feel they relate to Aus or they’re just plain amazing, was the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc. SE have dubbed it the slimmest handset yet, as it’s just 8.7mm in the centre of the arc. The arc is has a near-endless spec sheet which you can check out on Sony Ericsson’s site, but we’ve carved it down to just the major points:
- 4.2″ 854×480 MultiTouch display (w/ Bravia Engine) Shatter-Proof
- 8MP Camera w/ 720p recording and Sony Exmor R technology to enhance images
- 1GHz Snapdragon CPU
- Android 2.3 (or 2.4)
- 3.5mm headset
- DLNA
- 900/2100MHz UMTS or 800/850/1900/2100MHz UMTS
I’m seeing the Xperia arc as the Xperia X10 they it should have been. There is no confirmation as to whether it will come to Australia, though in the press release it says it’s coming to the global market and with both a version suited for Optus & Vodafone (if their network is still running) as well as a NextG suitable model, I don’t see why they won’t bring it down-under and let carriers overprice it like they initially did with the Xperia X10.
no android updates on this one… beware
“with both a version suited for Optus & Vodafone (if their network is still running)”
I’ve been a bit out of the loop as I’ve been moving to another country but what do you mean by the above, Buzz? Vodafone and Optus network going down in the near future?? I hope not!
No, Vodafone is having major network problems. Customers have filed a class action lawsuit against them due to the network being slow or unusable.
Sure they may not be great at updates, but this phone appears to be launching with the latest and greatest, so that in itself is a big step forward for SE. With the original X10 they got bogged down in perfecting everything for launch, and have been found out by many. So it appears to be a slightly less integrated UI, which allows them to update quicker. I don’t think SE will be the first out the door with updates, but they are in a damn better position than before. Just a shame nothing was said about the Playstation Phone… Read more »
This could be the best phone in the world but it won’t sell well unless SE will promise an Android update timeline
Apparently the X10 fries sims during the update to 2.1. It happened to a guy from work yesterday. He reckons he was reading blogs about it. Anyway, the real news is he took it back to Optus and they gave him a new sim and updated his phone to 2.1 on the spot. It was quiet instore so the guy offered to do it! He told me Optus have a dedicated pc that has updates on it to all the hardware they carry. Wow, gotta say that’s pretty good customer service – it was Optus’ Epping store.
balls, if they spent the same amount of time doing software updates as they did redesigning the exact same phone they might have a satisfied customer.
Sony Ericsson have a massive problem with designing software. They really suck. I’m really hoping the arc won’t suck, they can make amazing phones.
Recently their phones have been just that, balls.
and yet, they’re still using the 1GHz snapdragon…. dated much??
it will because its only a single core device while all others are pushing for dual core devices. And also its just a x10 replacement
