HTC have announced the devices that will be updated to the latest version of Android “Ice Cream Sandwich” and you’ll be pleased to know a majority of the devices are ones available, or soon will be available, here in Australia:

  • HTC Sensation – Telstra, Vodafone
  • HTC Sensation XE – Vodafone
  • HTC Sensation XL – Vodafone
  • HTC EVO 3D – Telstra, Vodafone

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.

If you’re the proud owner of one of the above devices, you’ve got a whole lot of Ice Cream Sandwich love coming your way in the early parts of 2012. Consider it a belated Christmas present from HTC to you. That leaves owners of the Incredible S, Desire S and Wildfire S left out to dry for the time being, sorry guys.

Rumour has it that HTC will be releasing new phones targeted at women which join the Sensation family: Sensation Lite, Sensation Diet and Sensation Super Skinny.

David Anderton

I cant see the wildfire getting ICS but the Desire S, HD and incredible S better get it. The S series is only like 7 months old.

Level380

No DHD on the list… bastards!!

Scott

lol

its already announce and about to be released in the US,  its called the

HTC Rezound

Stangely australian sites such as this one have been very quiet on its release, and yet its lined up spec wise
with the Droid and prime, but has a faster cpu clocked at dual cores running at 1.5ghz

Matt Booth

Oh, the HTC Rezound – that phone exclusive to Verizon with CDMA radios that won’t even work in Australia? I think I can see why it’s not getting much coverage over here..

Brent Salzmann

I see the Incredible S getting it and possibly the Desire S. The Wildfire S will just struggle with it.

Buzz Moody

I don’t see why the Desire S and Incredible S can’t get it. You do you have to factor in the mess that is Sense UI.

Jake Oliver

Oh, I’m sure they will get it, but will it actually get rolled out by the carriers?

Contrary to implication above those with unmentioned recently released handsets still have hope from the following quote from the HTC announcement: “We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.”
Stating that others are “left out to dry” isn’t a particularly fair and accurate statement.

Buzz Moody

Reworded it slightly for better clarification.

Skobiyan

What about the EVO 3D being sold by Vodafone?

Buzz Moody

Wooops! Updated.

Optus is now selling EVO 3D as well

Dont forget users of the incredible HTC Legend which is NOT laggy as hell after only 11 months of usage…damn thing struggles heaps with froyo and 15 or so apps

This update will be available as soon as the next flagship phone of HTC ships. Let’s say HTC Ubermaxfly comes out March 2012, then the update will be available after that. Same with Samsung. If Galaxy SII has Ice Cream sandwich before SIII, then the SIII’s appeal drops.

Lobie81

I want an Ubermaxfly. Where can I pre order??? 😉
