I asked Telstra about a 4G version of the Galaxy S III and they advised they are in discussions with Samsung about brining a 4G version of the GALAXY S III smartphone to Australia. but they wouldn`t expect it to be available for several months.
Wow. Telstra is way too expensive. $13pm more than the rest of them ($312pa) !!! Optus free on $60cap is pretty darn good for a new release.
Yeah but Telstra does dominate the other providers in AUS for network speeds, reliability and coverage… so the $13 pm is probably worth it.
Getting a galaxy S III and then using it on vodafone is like buying a Ferrari but then only every filling it up with E10 because its a bit cheaper…
Telstra also tweeted that it was Dual Channel hspa+ and hd voice… Wonder if those from other providers or even mobicity are also dc hspa+? Anyone know?
Telstra later withdrew that comment, definitely not dc hspa.
If you’re talking about the XL – I just disabled 4G on mine and tested it, with a speedtest result of 10mbps dl, 3mbps ul – FAR better than I’ve ever received with 3G before. This suggests that it probably is dc hspa+.
HTC One XL is still the king!
Rumor has it that the LTE (4G) version of the S3 has a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor and a massive 2GB of RAM and is due for release late June (in Canada at least). So I expect we will be seeing a similar specced version here released by Telstra in the coming months.
I’ve made my choice, have you?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/05/30/canadian-galaxy-s-iii-will-launch-on-june-20th-packing-lte-1-5ghz-snapdragon-s4-and-a-monstrous-2gb-of-ram/
I want this version too
Hopefully it’s square as well like the Korean model
Htc one xl pre ordered 2 days ago and its 4G and it comes with free beats head phones which i can sell if i want! And I’m not gonna mention how much better it looks then the cheap plastic s3
Um u do know that the s3 and one x both use the same type of material for the back cover right? They’re both polycarbonate. Only that samsung glazed their.
Yes but for some reason Htc’s feels much more premium then Samsung’s, but you have to agree that the combination of the krait dual core cpu which is better then tegra 3 quad core, Htc’s quality, beats h.p 4g and telstra’s reception is the best!
Haha. Yes I agree with you that it does feel more premium, but then again it’s always down to your personal taste. I’m glad Samsung decided to not use Tegra 3, and opt for their Exynos 4412, which according to benchmarks allowed the sgs3 to pretty much own everything even the Krait, but it’s only a benchmark; Don’t get me wrong, Krait dual core is an absolute beast, thankfully to the A15 architecture. I’m just glad that we’re not iSheeps. XD
i might have to take a lunch time walkie and see if they have it at the perth shop…
Those deciding between the SG3 and the HTC One XL let me add my 2 cents: I’ve had the SG2 and then Galaxy Nexus. Both were fantastic on paper but the one thing I didn’t research was the quality of the radio. Both phones performed very badly in Sydney with slow data and weird radio behaviour (like webpages getting endlessly stuck). I’m happy to say that the OneXL on 3G is working very well with Telstra and data is much faster. And of course, when I get 4G (LTE) it’s amazingly fast. (And on a purely subjective basis, the HTC… Read more »
FUCK YOU TELSTRA!!
I just signed my wife up with the Samsung Galaxy S3, and was told NOTHING with regards to the HTC One XL and the S3 – and now you bastards release these phones!
Fuck you!!!!
do your research before you buy, simpleton.
What reasearch douche bag? When exactly was the official release for the S3? Today, arsehole. Before today, it was vague nothingness from Telstra.
You must be new to the intarwebs. Welcome!
This phone, was announced around a month ago along with a likely release date. At the end of the day, when your buying into something for 2 years, it’s sensible to do some research and therefor the onus is on you.
Cheers

LOL – yes, just like the announcement of the HTC One XL – how long did that take? Luckily, I took the phone back – contract cancelled and S3 is on tomorrow! At the end of the day, when a Telstra sales rep says “Oh, that phone wont be coming out for sometime at least until end of June-Mid July”, because he wants to flog off the older crap – what good does research do if reps dont know shit about their own companies releases? Yes, your right, the onus was on me, because I trusted Telstra HQ to educate… Read more »

Good to see it ended well for you, I can see why you would get riled by such an experience. Whilst past experience has told me never to trust -or at least verify – what a phone rep tells you, that sounds like a case of bad sales and, if you wanted, you can take it up with management and/or the telecommunications ombudsman. Unfortunately the phrase ‘it’s your own fault’ applies all too often through ignorance willful or not. Whilst it may seem harsh it seems to apply here. Consumers do far too little research before making a purchase of… Read more »
Maybe instead of Having a rant on the internet like a child, maybe you could go into the store and explain your situation in a nice calm manner, and they may be able to help you out. Remember, if your nice to people, they’re more likely to go the extra mile for you.

Without wanting to take pleasure in other people’s disappointment, this was the only possible black cloud for my OneXL pre-order.
Was happy with the choice I made… even happier now.
was really hoping Samsung/Telstra would have a 4g/lte version of this upon release.
now very seriously considering ONE XL. not really the phone i wanted even though it is a great one. Just so many bad reports of older HTC products. Hope their current stuff is much better, One XL here i come…
Way to exy for a non 4g phone very disappointed Telstra
I am confused. I thought the phone had all the necessary antennas to receive LTE, even the stupid australian frequency we use, so why no LTE at launch? is it so they can sell the One XL? From cnet: In addition to working on existing 3G networks, the Samsung Galaxy S III is compatible with long-term evolution (LTE) or “4G” networks, but Optus has said that the phone will only support HSPA+ on its network.Telstra told ZDNet Australia that it was in discussions with Samsung to bring a 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S III to Australia, but it… Read more »
From what I understood, it doesn’t have an LTE radio.
Apparently there will be an LTE version in North America (i747) in the coming months… expecting it to be a different processor to the now launched non-LTE variant (S4 like the OneXL rather than the exynos).
Anyone know if the newly launched SGS3 is DC-HSDPA capable?
There aren’t any quad core CPUs available yet that support LTE. Samsung have a dual core CPU that is being used in the US based LTE devices. Hence there is no 4G at launch in Australia because the launch device has the quad core Exynos CPU.
A bit of research goes a long way, same goes for all the other what no 4G squarkers.
The HTC One X isn’t 4G as it has a Tegra 3 quad core CPU, whereas the HTC One XL is 4G because it has a dual core CPU fitted.
That’ll teach you to read CNET!
Looks like I’ll be getting a HTC One XL. Cheaper, and with LTE/4G.
so not on 4G yet?
Too expensive for a non 4G phone
ah so not on 4G yet?
Still not 4G!!! What a letdown!
$13 a month on the $59 cap? Really…? Just lost all interest.
