Just shy of 9 months after the source code release, Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich has topped 10% installation on Android devices world wide. About time too!
ICS has shown a huge growth over the last 6 weeks, but it’s still only clocking in at 10.9% of the Android Market share. I believe this is a poor reflection on the quality of the OS and more obviously, the lack of importance that the manufacturers put on the upgrade roll outs to their devices. The fact that devices are still to this day being released with Gingerbread demonstrates this further when you take into account that Gingerbread is now not 1, but 2 generations old with the release of Jelly Bean last week.

It would be great to see this broken down with graphs showing how much of the full android pie has ICS committed to but not delivered.
likewise would be nice to see what portion of each slice is at its max version. eg how many 2.2 will never get GB, how many 2.3 devices will never get ICS…
Waiting for ICS on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I however also own a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and that at least ships with ICS. In defence of the manufacturers… I also own a HTC Desire, that’s likely to never have ICS, and still widely used in the wild.. the Desire isn’t the only phone that is likely to be stuck on Gingerbread. Lower specced phones are likely to remain on Gingerbread for some time… due to the low specs and lack of memory for ICS. Yes some devices are too crap for an update, excuse me for being frank. However this is no defence for Samsung not yet upgrading the gtab. It is the last of the original tabs to have been updated. Even Acer was first to the party. It is over a month slower than all other OEMs. Not good enough.
Still no ICS on my Xperia Arc. Most of the world have it, but not stupid Optus. I counted the other night… 15 bloatware apps too!
