Looks like owners of the Gingerbread running Sony Xperia S are getting some good news this morning, Sony Mobile Australia’s Facebook page has been updated to advise owners of the handset that their Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is ready. The update to Android 4.0.4 brings features such as Lock screen with improved functionality, Resizable widgets, Improved control of your mobile data consumption, Recent Apps button for clear overview of your applications and of course the ability to install the best browser of them all : Chrome. The Quote from their Facebook page :
Great news, the software upgrade for Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on Xperiaâ„¢ S has begun. Your network providers will send a SMS notification directly to your phone when the upgrade is available to download. For further information keep an eye on http://blogs.sonymobile.com/products/
Sony did clarify in the comments that rather than as an SMS the alert will be received as a notification on the phone, I highly recommend going to Settings > About Phone > Software Update to check if the update is available for your phone yet. Sony advise that as well as being available as an OTA update from carriers, they will also provide the option of upgrading using a computer either using the web-based Xperia Update, PC Companion or Bridge for Mac. So now all you have to do is wait for the notification from your carrier. Now to start asking Sony where is your Jelly Bean.
Sony has provided a walkthrough video on what is new in the Sony Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Xperia S:
my phone is 2 days out of the box and i can’t update .. pc companion, the phone say already up to date and sony web site won’t load java even tho i got the latest … phone says android version 2.3.7 and build number is 6.0.A.3.7.3
just go to xda and download the official EU ICS.. i dont know what kind of ppl would wait for australia for ICS when rest of the world gets it first, just learn how to install other region ICS, they work perfect as long as u dont download US ICS, only EU.
nothing on my non carrier phone from sony centre.
Connect your phone to your computer and check for the update through sony pc companion. Thats the only way my phone would tell me that there was an update available.
HTC incredible s is also getting it globally with the roll out starting today. Look out for that one too
Does all network provider send the SMS as I’m currently on virgin mobile and still no SMS ATM I am excites to update to ice cream 🙂
They amended the statement to say it’ll be a notification not an SMS, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update and check
Lucky them. It appears Samsung does not care about their clients leaving them stuck with a crappy OS on their quality hardware. There is no longer an excuse to have any device still running HC when you are as big as Samsung.
Sony nice work.

There getting to it. SGT 7.7 3g just received ICS
I know, installed already and running nicely. big improvement over HC. Finally Samsung starts to redeem themselves. Pity I had to do this manually as they are very slow at releasing the updates.
End of July my friend. I too am pissed off I had to wait this long
