Last week, at the Edinburgh International TV Festival, Zeebox CEO Anthony Rose announced that the social TV service would be coming to Australia in the next 30 to 45 days. In July, Zeebox announced that they had entered into a partnership with Channel 10 to bring the service to Australia, but no specific time frame was announced.
I’ve been using Zeebox in the UK for a while now, and it’s pretty great. It is streets ahead of any other television guide application on Android in both look and features, providing detailed information about scheduled episodes, and tying into social networks to provide live reactions and ratings. And most importantly, it helps me avoid Hollyoaks, which is probably the worst television programme ever made.
While Channel 10 will be the major partner, Zeebox is intended to be network-agnostic and they will be releasing a development kit to allow the other networks to integrate rich content, such as backstage videos, into the application.
