Number of devices running Jelly Bean growing steadily say latest device statistics

The first numbers of the New Year are in and the number of Android devices running at least Ice Cream Sandwich or greater stands at just over 39%, with at least 10% of the total amount of Android devices out there running Android 4.1 or greater. Devices running Android 4.0 and above the only versions to gain in usage share over the last month.

Gingerbread which is still installed on the most amount of devices by far saw a decline in the amount of devices, dropping below the 50% mark for the first time where a version of Android 2.3.X is now installed on only 47.9% of Android devices. A similar story is played out across the board with the rest of the version numbers dropping in their market share, Honeycomb dropped from 1.6% to 1.5%, FroYo is now on only 9% of devices, Eclair dropped from 2.7% to 2.4% and Donut is down 0.1% to now only exist on 0.2% of devices accessing the Google Play Store.

Best news of all I say is that devices running Cupcake have stopped accessing the Google Play Store altogether, is it time to drag that Motorola Cliq out of retirement and fire it up to access the Play store just to mess with the numbers for next month?

With all the work that manufacturers have been doing to get Jelly Bean upgrades out there and new devices arriving with Jelly Bean all the time it’s inevitable that market share for Jelly Bean will increase and as peoples contracts start to expire and users upgrade to newer phones running Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich these numbers will inevitably increase even more. Perhaps the 3 year contracts in Canada are to blame for still showing us devices running Donut?
