HTC’s first device with a 5-inch 1080p display, the HTC Butterfly, is now available for pre-order from MobiCity for $849. Not cheap, but that’s the price you pay for being an early adopter to cool new technology. MobiCity are expected to start shipping the phone on the 18th of January.
While it won’t support any Australian 4G bands, the Butterfly does have HSPA+, 2GB RAM, Android 4.1 w/ Sense UI, an 8MP rear camera, a 2020mAh battery, and 16GB of internal memory than can be expanded with a microSD card. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, and with the minimal battery and hi-res display, it’s difficult to see the Butterfly having great battery life. If this is something you’re worried about, we’ll be reviewing the device to see if it’s up to scratch.
The news that the Butterfly features expandable storage compared to its DNA counterpart is a welcomed thought, but the inability to insert an extended battery seems sketchy – especially with that 1080p screen.
The Xperia Z could be a more viable option, provided it has a battery to accommodate, otherwise a Note II would do just fine at this time.
Not at that price and with no 4G. If I was in the US I’d consider a Verizon DNA (especially with the gorgeous colour scheme- style counts!), but this? No.

Ouch, that’s pretty steep pricing. I’m tempted to wait but the One X at $400 from Kogan is half the price of this.
Most of Kogan’s phones (well, the ones that interest me) including the One X, are “Not In Stock”. And they’ve filled out their list with weird old stuff… The Defy? Xperia X8? The HTC Charm? Nokia E5? Did they find some old forgotten boxes in a warehouse somewhere?
A 2020mAh battery running a 1080p screen, yeah that will run just great !!, and throw in 3G and they expect us to pay $849, what a joke !
$849 for a 3G phone 16GB? I would rather wait.

yeah! It is like Verison called dibs on dark phones with red accents. Pitty they are all CDMA.
It disugsts me how Verizon and other American network carriers demand on changing the hardware of devices. Eg. Samsung Galaxy S3 has over 5 different models, they should all be just the i9300, it’d make updates come around sooo much quicker.
