Google’s new unified messaging service, “officially” has a name. Techradar have posted some leaked images that show the app is now (only days from Google I/O) using the name “Hangouts”.

While there’s little surprise left in the fact that Hangouts is coming, there’s still some question as to what the full feature set will be. One thing is for sure, it’s long overdue and most welcome by the larger majority of Google’s messaging users. SMS integration seems to be a very common theme in the want category for users, similar to the iOS iMessage feature.

Are you looking forward to seeing what Hangouts can do? Let us know what you’d like to see in the comments below.

I think its great and long overdue. Messages from Google+ not appearing in Google chat always annoyed me. Hopefully they incorporate SMS in this and include the ability to send and receive contact cards, another one of my pet peeves.

The only downside to adding messages is that non nexus devices have their own SMS application. For example Samsung, Sony and HTC. That adds problems. Unless it just acted like a second SMS application then I’m sure it’d be fine.

I don’t care about it, unless it has SMS integrated. Sorry to be blunt, but that’s just how I feel. Kind of makes it feel pointless to me otherwise.

Exactly, I would like the ability to send/receive sms from my wifi tablet without having to use bluetooth connection.

Also the fact that MMS images get compressed and sending over WiFi could solve this issue without having to get a 3rd party application.
