Galaxy-S4-Zoom (1)
The first look at the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom has been shown off thanks to what appears to be a leaked Press Image, delivered to SamMobile via an anonymous tipster.

In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Zoom is rumoured to feature a 4.3” qHD sAMOLED screen, powered by a 1.6GHz Dual-Core CPU, it will have 8GB of internal storage with a microSD Card slot capable of taking up to 64GB cards as well as having the usual wireless options such as Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n as well as A-GPS. Most importabtly on the camera side it will have a 16MP with 10x optical zoom.

In terms of features, the Galaxy S4 Zoom will run Android 4.2.2 with the Touchwiz/Nature UX of recent Samsung phones. One would also hope that the camera software enhancements included with the Galaxy Camera would be included as well.

From the look of the lens on the back of the render, the 10x optical zoom is definitely a possibility. Techtasic has actually managed to get some photos of the actual device and they also confirm the hardware specs that are rumoured. They have also confirmed that the phone will be released at the June 20th event in London, head over to their site for another two photos, which appear to show off a dedicated shutter button.

Overall, the Galaxy S4 Zoom appears to be a follow up to the Samsung Galaxy Camera which itself was based off a Galaxy S3, although the Galaxy S4 Zoom is said to be a ‘cameraphone’ not a specific camera, so a followup of the Galaxy Camera would not be outside the realms of possibility, especially for a company like Samsung.

It’s an interesting device and hopefully we will see the Galaxy Zoom here in Australia. Rest assured that if it is indeed launched at the London ‘Premiere 2013’ event on June 20th, we’ll be in contact with Samsung Australia for local release details as soon as the London event is over.

Do you think a cameraphone like this is necessary with the cameras on current smartphones?

I do enjoy taking photos and do find my phone inadequate. I would like one very much but it will depend on the price and photo quality for me to actually buy one.

Yes, it’s a bit thick but not too thick for me.

BurnZ

Interesting. Even though it can take up to a 64Gb MicroSD , this needs to be more than 8GB internally.

Liam

This just looks horrible.

Gregorian

That’s The Verge in you talking. I love it. But I really want a Sony NEX version with detachable SLR lenses.

Greg

Yep, it rather looks like what would happen if you put your S4 on top of your compact camera and started heating it up,…
