It’s a new month and that means that Google has released the figures for the distribution of Android across devices, based on the versions of devices that accessed Google Play in the 14 days leading up to and ending on August 1st. With not much time to truly take into account the numbers for Android 4.3, it appears to have been left off the list this month, but we can surely see what happens when the August stats are released next month.
At this stage all the numbers for older versions of Android continue to fall, except for those versions which sit at the statistical anomaly point of 0.1% distribution – I think it’s time for everyone with an Donut (Android 1.6) or Honeycomb (Android 3.2) device to just give it up and invest in a shiny new device, or at the very least, stop accessing the Google Play Store.
The good news is that Jelly Bean distribution continues to climb, although the older Android 4.1 version is seeing slightly higher numbers than the ‘newest’ Android 4.2 version.
Android Version | June | July |
1.6 (Donut) | 0.1% | 0.1% |
2.1(Eclair) | 1.4% | 1.2% |
2.2(Froyo) | 3.1% | 2.5% |
2.3(Gingerbread) | 2.3-2.3.7 : 34.1% | 2.3-2.3.2: 0.1% 2.3.3-2.3.7: 33.0% |
3.2(HoneyComb) | 0.1% | 0.1% |
4.0.3-4.0.4(Ice Cream Sandwich) | 23.3% | 22.5% |
4.1(Jelly Bean) | 32.3% | 34.0% |
4.2(Jelly Bean) | 5.6% | 6.5% |
Next month it will be the inclusion of Android 4.3 that piques everyones interest, but till then if you’re an Android developer, the version of Android you should be targeting is Android 4.0 and above, so time to check out the current Android design guidelines and make sure your app looks good.
I gave my mum my Nexus One running the last GB version of MIUI. She won’t stop using that until it’s dead.
I wonder who is using eclair
I’m more curious in who is still using a Donut device.
It’s ME!!! I promise I`ll turn my two HTC Dreams off…..eventually 😉
