Some manufacturers leak information like a sieve does, but Sony seem to have retained more control over leaks than other manufacturers. Images of two new Sony phones, presumed to be the rumoured Honami, as well as the recently announced Xperia Z Ultra have surfaced in the last 24 hours thanks to some eagle-eyed members of the XDA Forums.

The fascinating part of the leaks show off the measures that Sony have taken to protection their final product being captured by cameras. They hide them in hideously ugly cases which encase the actual device.

The images have been removed from the original source by the publisher which potentially speaks to the legitimacy of the images and perhaps points to a pending announcement of the Honami, as well as a release schedule appearing soon. Watch this space, Ausdroid will be all over any information as soon as it becomes available, possibly even at their IFA event coming in September.

Are Sony being smart with this type of image leak protection, or are they trolling excited potential buyers?

Isn’t the Honami featured in that Sony Lens camera article from the other day?

All the other leaks show that their phones look essentially like slightly different sized Xperia Z’s. There isn’t much to hide.

I don’t get the point of trying to hide the ultra…everyone knows what it looks like and it is in the hands of consumers?
