Kogan are no strangers to making and selling their own smartphone, as they released the original Agora 5″ smart phone earlier this year and they have once again kept the Agora name with their new smartphone they have announced this morning.
The new Kogan Agora dual-SIM smartphone undercuts the current phone on-sale with German supermarket giant Aldi which went on-sale in their stores in Australia last week, but is from what we can see a better deal, although still from our point of view, the Nexus 4 makes for a bit more of a better buy.
The features of the new Agora smartphone are:
- 5″ 720p HD touchscreen
- 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 4GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card
- 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera
- Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)
Kogan founder and CEO, Ruslan Kogan, has stated that the Agora quad-core smartphone provides similar features to other smartphone which can cost up to four times the price of the Agora smartphone – someone should link him to Google Play.

The Agora smartphone supports the 850MHz and 2100MHz 3G network bands in Australia so it’s suited primarily for use on the Telstra or Vodafone networks. Agora’s second SIM card slot only supports 2G networks. The new Agora smartphone is available for pre-order now through the Kogan website, with an expected shipping date from Thursday, 3 October.
The smartphone will also be available for the US and UK markets, priced at US$189 and £149, respectively.
Hmm .. could be an idea phone for my kids. I hear what people are saying about the N4 but at the end of the day, the N4 is still $100 more expensive. My only concerns are no support for the Optus network and future OS updates.
Try $50 more expensive for the 8Gb model.
Ah! Yes. Forgot the 8GB model which is probably more of a comparison. When put it that way, the N4-8GB is better buy. Thanks for the heads up.
