It appears that Google is doing some behind the scenes magic, pushing out an OTA update to all Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 owners. Having run this on one of our Nexus 7 (2013)’s just now, we can confirm the update is small — only 3.4MB for the Nexus 7 (2013) — so the size for other devices is probably about the same, but we can’t be sure.
On the post on Android Building, Google advises:
The source code for a bugfix build (KRT16S) is being pushed to
kitkat-release and will be tagged as android-4.4_r1.2. This release
is for Android 4.4 KitKat available for Nexus 7
(deb/flo/grouper/tilapia), Nexus 4, and Nexus 10.Additionally, proprietary binaries and factory images will be made
available shortly.
Proprietary binaries: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/drivers
Factory images: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

If you’re after the OTA files directly (e.g. to pull apart, flash manually, or what have you) here they are:
This update is small and being pushed out very quickly, but only for Nexus 4, 7 and 10 — the Nexus 5 isn’t receiving this update at the moment. We don’t really know what the update is supposed to be fixing, though I’m sure someone will go through the AOSP code at some point and figure out what it fixes. If you’ve received the update and can share with us any new things you’ve found, please leave a comment below!
Has anyone experienced the camera not loading on nexus 7 (2nd gen) at any time? Tried reloading, it was working before the 4.4 update.
Don’t think so.
Thanks. So i better go to the shop and tell him to change it for me. That is the only option I think.
I’d be taking it in, yep. If the camera isn’t working and it’s still covered by warranty, you should be able to ask for a replacement.
will do then. thanks for the advice.
I am assuming this must be an abandoned web site.
Why are you assuming that?
Because I have asked direct questions that have been ignored.
What do you think this website has been setup to help you ? it is a news website not your help system. maybe if you talk to Google you will get an answer, any good will from others on here to assist you just flew out the windows with your stupid post.
Still no android 4.4.
My OTA 4.4 didn’t install, so does anyone know if Google will push another OTA my way. This is for my Nexus 7 2012. So what am I supposed to do – does anyone actually know?
Download the factory image directly, and install that:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasi
Read the instructions carefully, or you’ll wipe your device.
Where did my comment go
My N4 is updating to Kit kat as we speak
just got the OTA for n4
r u in oz?
yep Sydney
N7 2013 OTA update arrived this morning. Shocked not to see GEL on it… downloaded and installed instead and it runs perfectly.
My nexus 7 4.4 OTA arrived but didn’t install properly what do I do now?
It’s funny after eagerly waiting (forever) for 4.4 update OTA. I manually flashed the factory image but this update took no time in landing OTA on my Nexus 7 2013.
why not tilapia Nexus 7 3G (2012)?
Still waiting for kk over here on 2012
interesting there is a new bootloader for the nexus 7 (2013) as well…. applying to the kids’ nexus 7 (2013) now (yes they got them thanks to kitkat 😀 )
Is there a link to Nexus 4 OTA zip?
This is interesting considering kk has hardly been pushed out to any 4s or 7s world wide OTA. Maybe Google will actually start pushing kk out now that they’ve completed this patch…
Bloody hope so!
I’m still waiting too.
Me too! I’ve been checking every day!
1.4mb on my Nexus 7 2012. Just upgraded, seemed to fix some of the audio bugs
I don’t want to detract from the subject of this article, but I haven’t even received the update on my N4 or N7 2013!
Nope…gave up and flashed both this morning…and now again
Excuse my ignorance, but does sideloading updates risk you receiving later OTA updates? I feel comfortable enough doing it (even if I shouldn’t have to!), but I don’t want to have to do it for every update down the road.
I’m no expert, but I don’t think so. It’s only if you replace the stock ROM with a custom one that you don’t get OTA’s (though you may get them for the custom ROM)
No. I side loaded on both my 10 and 7, and received the OTA bug fix update today. It looks like the new version will be one everybody will be receiving OTA. I guess the early adopters who sideloaded were bug testing for Google
Yes but only for my original N7. Still waiting for it on my N7N7 (2013).
Good to know, thanks for sharing. Jealous though!
Hopefully this makes the settings dual view on the Nexus 10
