Polariod originally announced that it was bringing a new retro styled instant prints camera with a version of Android running in the background originally last year and at the time, the company stated that it would be released in the US sometime within the first quarter of 2014, yet not real timeframe or date have been given so far.
Well the company today at CES have given an update about the device pictured above, stating that the hardware is cruising for a fall release in the US (Spring here in Australia) now that it’s finalised the necessary legal agreements to make it a reality.
The full rundown of specs include:
- 14 MP rear facing camera – 2MP front facing
- 4GB of storage – can be expanded via microSD card
- 4.5-inch touchscreen
- Wifi
When Wi-Fi signal is not available the Polaroid will pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth to transfer photos instantly to various social photo sharing services such asdf Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
For the printing side of things, the device will utilise Zink – Zero Ink® Digital Printing – ink-free paper a main-stay of miniature photo printers like the LG portable printer.
There is no word if the company will be bringing this device to our shores at this stage, but with Polaroid devices sold in Big W stores in Australia, they do have a retail channel they can utilise if they decide to, but it’s an interesting device none the less.
What do you think of the Polaroid Socialmatic camera? Would you consider buying this device if it comes to Australia?
It’s coming to Australia later this year . Brands Australia confirmed it to me in a reply to a post I made on the Polaroid Australia Facebook page.
Would love a camera like this for distributing photos while travelling.
Have asked Brands Australia who distributes Polaroid instant digital cameras in Australia about the Socialmaric.
