The team behind the Pebble Smartwatch which launched to much fanfare made a bit of noise before CES 2014, and as it happens they announced a premium upgrade to their line of smartwatches, with the advent of the Pebble Steel.
Available in matte black and brushed stainless steel, the new variety of Pebble Smartwatch certainly has a premium feel to it, and has the price-tag to match. While the original, plastic-body Pebble remains available for $150 USD, the newer version is $249 USD, including free shipping (or express shipping available for a small amount extra).
The Pebble Steel is made from premium components, including Corning’s Gorilla Glass on the display, the stainless steel construction, as well as the already-premium features from the original Pebble, including up to 7 days battery life and waterproofing to 5 ATM (atmospheres), so you can wear it around the house, in the pool, and in the shower without any major issues.
Another bonus is the Pebble Steel is a bit smaller than the original; at 46 x 34 x 10.55mm, it’s just that little bit smaller in every dimension (contrast with the original dimensions of 52 x 36 x 11.5mm). However, it is a little bit heaver, given the metal construction.
Shipping with two bands (a leather and a metal option), the Pebble Steel is beginning shipping today, but as orders are going out in the order received, those who ordered late in the process (read: us at Ausdroid) will be waiting a couple of weeks for ours to be delivered. Rest assured, once it arrives, we’ll have the full review for you.
that’s almost like saying the $40 metal seiko I saw in oo_com_au is a premium watch.
in saying that, I am interested. I don’t really wear a watch anymore. even my raymond weil watch is unused now.
