Screen Shot HP ChromeBook 11 JB Hi-Fi

It seems Chromebooks are becoming the flavour of the month at JB Hi-Fi. Joining their existing Chromebook range is the HP Chromebook 11 on sale for $397, and what’s even better is that the Google are offering free 100GB Google Drive storage as part of the package.

HP Chromebook 11

Just incase your not sure of the specs, here is a rundown:

  • 11″ HD IPS Display (1366 x 768 res)
  • Samsung Exynos 5250 processor
  • 2GB Memory
  • 16GB eMMC3 storage onboard + 100GB Google Drive Storage (for 2 years)
  • Wi-Fi: 802.11a/b/g/n
  • Bluetooth® 4.0
  • 30Wh li-Polymer battery offering up to 6 hours usage
  • VGA Webcam
  • 2x USB 2.0
  • Audio in/out combo jacks
  • Slimport video out

The HP Chromebook 11 certainly does seem quite impressive and I would certainly consider buying one as it certainly looks the part. The Exynos processor could see it lagging behind the Intel Haswell based machines (like the Acer C720) but all reports are the HP variant is fairly good.

Had a play with one of these today. Definitely the best looking Chromebook available in a bricks and mortar store here in Australia. That’s just my opinion though. Lovely contrast from that display too.

I don’t know why Chromebook makers keep pumping out these 768 models. Actually, I do. Price. But this is 2014 and even on a 11″ screen, it’s kinda unacceptable that my phones have outclassed that for a good year or two. If someone made a Chromebook with a halfway decent screen resolution and bumped up the price maybe a hundred or two, I might buy one.

Currently we have a choice between el cheapo, disposable ‘netbooks’ and the ridiculous $1500 Pixel. Some middle ground would be nice.

100gig of “free drive storage” for 12 months people always seem to forget the time limits on these things when they post them. So you either need to be willing to pay for it in the future or basically ignore that you have it.

Its like drug dealers telling you the first one is free to get you hooked by uploading all your data then its move it elsewhere (way to much hassle) or pay

Ok, let’s just clarify this, you can load up your full 100GB which will remain active after the 12 months, but you can’t add files to it.

From the Google Support page – https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/2703646?hl=en – :

All of your files will remain in Drive and you can access, download, or share them whenever you want. You won’t be able to add additional files unless you buy more storage at http://www.google.com/settings/storage.
