Sony Xperia
All good things must come to an end, and so it is for Android updates to older model phones. Sony has updated the support pages for a range of their older model Xperia handsets noting that their build is the final version, meaning that owners should begin either accepting the final version of their software build or begin looking at the ROM community.

The devices range in age from around the 18 – 24 months old, which seems to be about the average age for Smartphone updates, although the fact that a number of these devices are still only on Ice Cream Sandwich is a slightly worrying trend. Nearly two years of updates is fairly good for some of these phones, but some of them have never seen a software update since launch. The latest trend from Sony with a seemingly reduced range of phones meaning they concentrate more on a smaller group of devices may see we get some more updates to more devices, but the 18 month to 24 month mark seems to be the trend.

Do you think Sony should have done more with updates on these phones or it 18 months to two years a fair time for software support?

Will the xperia sp get an update

toast

The Xperia S people will be upset.
For some reason Sony had a tough time updating that thing. The updates always came late. Something in the hardware just made it a pain.

Haha would be upset if I still used it. Annoyed me how the S was a guaranteed update yet it was then dropped then picked up again with the ICS update being pushed back further and further. TBH I was surprised that it got the JB update.

The Play on the other hand, I was disappointed with. No updates since launch thou it was promised ICS at the least with sony doing a 180.

All the more reason I jumped for the Nexus.
