Samsung Exynos - 5422 -5260
Samsung apparently had more products to launch after their Unpacked 5 event yesterday, today launching two new mobile processors the Exynos 5422 and the Exynos 5260.

Both the Exynos 5422 and 5260 are capable of rendering 4K video, an option that will come in useful as display resolutions in mobile devices ramp up in the coming months. Both the processors ustilise the big.LITTLE HMP(Heterogeneous Multi Processing) architecture from ARM, with the Exynos 5422 using an Octa-Core configuration with four 2.1GHz Cortex A15 cores and four 1.5GHz Cortex A7 cores. While the Exynos 5260, is a Hexa-core processor which offers two 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A15 cores and four 1.3GHz ARM Cortex A7 cores.

The 5422 processor is produced using the 28nm manufacturing process offering a 10% power reduction over the previous 32nm manufacturing process. The Exynos 5422 will go into production this quarter while the 5260 is currently in prodution.

The other news from Samsung is the release of 16Mp and 13Mp ISOCELL CMOS Image Sensors, the two sensors are apparently more light sensitive offering 1.12ยตm ISOCELL pixels to give better photos in lower light conditions. They’ve also announced a new NFC sensor and their first wireless connectivity solution which will support IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz and is aimed at the IOT(Internet of Things), the idea of connecting devices within a small area.

There’s always plenty of cool things coming out of Samsung, but it’s actually pretty rare we see their Exynos processors in phones, with the South Korean manufacturer choosing to release their Snapdragon models overseas. We have seen the Exynos Mobile processor in their Chromebooks, and perhaps that’s what we’ll see in their upcoming Chromebook 2 release.
