While the stitched faux leather back is still a sticking point for some, the Samsung Chromebook 2 launch is still pretty hotly anticipated, with rumours from last year pointing at a higher end spec coming to the Chromebook series. UberGizmo has apparently received details on the Chromebook 2 and published a post prematurely – and then pulled it – which sheds some further light on the specs for the Samsung Chromebook 2, which do in fact show a at least one model coming with a higher end screen.
From the pre-order leak from BHPhotoVideo we know there will be two screen sizes on offer 11.6″ and 13.3″ but UberGizmo give us the resolution of the screens- 1366×768 for the 11.6″ and 1920×1080 for the 13.3″. The SoC for both will apparently be the Exynos 5 Octa, with estimates that this power sipping ARM based chip will allow for up to 8.5 hours of battery life per charge.
Further confirmed specs from the BHPhotoVideo leak advise that the 11.6″ model will contain a 16GB SSD and the 13.3″ model will arrive with 4GB of RAM.
Further on in the article, it lists the Samsung Chromebook 2 as coming pre-loaded with ‘a software package that has a value of over $100’, setting a new precedent for Chromebooks which up until now had been free from cruft or ‘Bloatware’. Unfortunately there are no details on which software will be included.
Lastly, the article advises that the Samsung Chromebook 2 will launch in April, with the 11.6″ model priced at $319.99 and the 13.3″ model priced at $399.99.
With an April launch coming, we can expect the official announcement any day now, and we’ll be definitely after Samsung Australia to provide details on Australian availability.
Does the prospect of a HD Screen and 4GB RAM on the 13.3″ model sound like your next(or first) Chromebook?
