The Galaxy S5 will launch here in Australia in the coming weeks and we’ll be getting our first look at the phone at the official Australian launch on the 26th of March. Not only will we see the Galaxy S5, but in the invite sent out to Australian media today, Samsung has confirmed that well also be seeing the wearables announced at MWC – the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and the very good looking Gear Fit.
While the launch event is scheduled for the 26th of March, we haven’t received confirmation of when the phone or the Gear products will be available for purchase. Currently the only date that Samsung has advised for a release date for the Galaxy S5 was at Mobile World Congress, when they advised that over 150 countries would launch the phone on the 11th of April. With this introduction to the Australian media happening prior, it’s natural to assume that we will most likely see the phone launched here then.
While we’ve confirmed that all four Australian telcos will be carrying the Galaxy S5, we have yet to see any plans or pricing made public. You can currently register your interest in the Galaxy S5 with Optus, Telstra and Vodafone who are I`m sure all extremely eager to sign you onto one of their contracts.
The Galaxy S5 is now available to pre-order from two online retailers – DMavo and Mobicity – with DMavo currently the cheapest option with a price tag of $880, although Kogan is currently taking names of people interested in the phone as well.
Bricks and mortar retailers Dick Smith and Harvey Norman are currently taking expressions of interest for the Galaxy S5, obviously trying to gauge interest and ensure enough stock to cover demand when the phone inevitably launches.
We’ll know a lot more about the pricing and availability of the Galaxy S5 after the launch event, we also hope to get a lot more information regarding where the Gear wearables will be available for purchase in Australia and we hope to have a review of the phone extremely soon after the launch event.
I think Samsung forgot about their own event or HTC really scared them.. still no announcement!
Oh, it’s coming. The even starts soon. We hope to get all the info on distribution today.
