With the launch of the Galaxy S4, Samsung went ahead and released a range of phones based on the S4 name, and it appears that they’re about to repeat the process. While a Galaxy S5 Active probably won’t be released this time due to the Galaxy S5 coming with IP67 protection, a Galaxy S5 Zoom seems to definitely be on the cards.
Like the S4 Zoom before it, the S5 Zoom will again not quite live up to the specs of the original. The camera focused phone has shown up on GFXBench showing details of the hardware including the screen, CPU Speeds, storage, RAM and front and rear camera modules. The S5 Zoom will be designated model # SM-C115 following on from the Galaxy S4 Zoom which was released under two model #s the SM-C1010 and SM-C101.
Hardware wise the S5 Zoom will come with a 720P Screen and will be powered by a Samsung Exynos Hexa Core Processor clocked at 1.3GHz which operates with two Cortex A-15 cores as well as four lower powered Cortex-A7 cores. There’s 2GB of RAM to go along with this as well as 16GB of storage, although only 9GB of this appears free to be used and it’s expected that a microSD card slot will be included as in the S4 Zoom.
There will be the full range of connectivity included – WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC – as well as a listing for a single SIM but no details on whether the S5 Zoom will support LTE or if it will come with the ‘Download Booster’ capacity which bonds LTE and WiFi to boost download speeds.
There’s also a whole host of sensors on board as well – Accelerometer, Compass, Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Gyroscope.
The Camera module for the rear camera will be fairly high – 19MP(5184×3888) on the rear and a 2MP(1920×1080) on the front. Unlike the Galaxy S5 which supports UHD Video, the S5 Zoom will only capture FullHD (1920×1080) video.
With the S5 Zoom, we once again get a fairly under-powered version of the Galaxy S5. Based on these specs, it’s more than likely we’ll see another underpowered Galaxy S5 Mini at some stage soon as well. Still, perhaps Samsung is testing multiple versions and will surprise us with an official announcement soon.
