Just this morning Google has pushed out its next version of Android KitKat 4.4, with a point update to 4.4.4 now available for Nexus devices.

Little is known about what’s actually in this update, but the hot tip is that it’s just security fixes and the like, with no major (or known) new user-facing features. The 4.4.4 code hasn’t (from what I can see) hit the AOSP repositories just yet, so it’s not too easy to determine what’s in there.

If you’ve got a Nexus device, you’ll probably be prompted with an OTA (over the air) update in the next few days, but if you’re impatient (we are!) you can download the new factory images today:

The image is not yet available for the Nexus 7 (2013) mobile variant, but this isn’t really new; the Nexus 7 (2013) mobile is still at 4.4.2 (r2), and hasn’t yet received the 4.4.3 update yet either.

I STILL haven’t got this update for my Nexus 5 yet?? Checking everyday (does checking actually do anything?) but not a thing. Am I the only one??

Yes it is you, Google does not like you they said “let’s disable his updates Bwahahaha” Both my Nexus 4 and 5 updated to 4.4.4 the next morning after release. Mind you later is better as apps need to be updated, immediately after a new update your battery gets eaten by incompatible apps.

It IS me!! I knew it! I’m gonna put my tin foil hat back on and go hide in the garage… they’re watching me!!
Strangely enough my Nexus 7 (2013) updated ages ago. Oh well, patience is a virtue!

My Nexus 7 2012 has packed it in. Before I received the 4.4.3 update, my tablet kept freezing when I turned it on. The screen stays frozen on the same thing for ages. I have to hold down the power button to restart it. My tablet managed to not freeze when it was updating to 4.4.3 the other night and I thought it would have fixed these issue, alas it has not. Still freezing. This came without warning or anything. Just started happening like 3 days ago. :/ Anyone else got the same issue or know of a solution? Won’t… Read more »

This is one of the reasons why I got rid of my Nexus 5 – far too buggy for me. Buggy camera which crashed or reset the phone, the mail app didn’t work at all with exchange (really pissed me off as I need it for work), issues with the notification light not lighting up when I’d get a notification…..just too many bugs. Good to see Google getting around to fixing issues but they shouldn’t have the phone with major issues like that in the first place. Nice device, but I couldn’t use it as my daily driver and couldn’t… Read more »

nexus 7 2012 got the 4.4.3 OTA last night, so it’s out there.

Just dropped the 4.4.4 factory image on to my nexus 5.
