Google has announced overnight that they have acquired curated music service Songza. For those who don’t know, Songza’s service offers contextual expert-curated playlists, to give users the right music at the right time. Songza has its own music library, but it seems likely that by joining forces with Google, Songza will gain access to Play Music’s library as well.
For now, though, Google and Songza have announced that there won’t be any immediate changes to the service, so existing users can continue to use the service as they have done previously. In the next few months, of course, they’ll explore how they can bring the best features of Songza to Google Play Music, as well as considering how the features could apply to YouTube and other Google products.
For the time being, you can check out Songza online, or via your Android by installing the app below.
I’ve been listening to Songza this morning while getting business started for the day, and while writing up this article. I haven’t used the service previously, but it seems to meet its promise of delivering some pretty cool tunes to suit your mood.
