After showing up first as a mere front panel just two days ago, the Xperia Z3 Compact seems determined to make an early appearance to eager Sony fans around the world. The phone specs have apparently been leaked by Sony Xperia developer DooMLoRD.

DooMLoRD has leaked a number of specs for the phone which is apparently carrying the D58XX model number. Specifications for the ‘Compact’ device include a 4.5″ 720p display, which will be powered by a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 MSM8974-AC processor and 2GB of RAM. Just as the Xperia Z1 Compact carried a great camera, the Z3 Compact will again come with a high-end 20.7MP rear camera with a 2.1MP front-facing camera as well.

The tweets include a screenshot of the About Screen, which includes information on the kernel information as well as the Android version # (4.4.2), however as the phone isn’t quite ready for release, this could change before the launch, which is expected to be at IFA in September.

Has the Z2 compact even been officially announced yet?

Daniel Tyson

No, we were discussing this last night. Bit weird that it’s a Z3 Compact but no Z2 Compact or even any phone that could be called a Z2 Compact has been released. Bit weird.

hells yeah. though they better…

a) fix the camera quality overall/flashbleed

b) keep it the same size while filling it with that screen more

c) potentially thin it down. though understandably tough.

I’d actually like to see them do thicker, so there was more space for a larger capacity battery.

I don’t find the thickness of the Z1 compact too much. As Jeni mentions it’s part of the reason it has great battery life. I suspect the other reason for the thickness is the waterproofing which is handy to have but I could live without.

The flashbleed issue was a minor annoyance. The fact Sony would do nothing to help me or effected users. Going so far as to deny the problem existed means I’ll never buy another Sony product again. Their customer service was non existent.

Don’t forget they also claimed the back was glass, then changed to plastic and many reviewers claimed it was a glass back. Very dodgy of Sony.
