The launch of the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has been a rather drawn out affair, with the launch date for the tablet withheld – along with the details for the Smartwatch 3 – for some reason best known to Sony. But the patient wait for customers eager to get their hands on the lightweight
waterproof 8″ tablet could soon be over. Sony has placed a banner ad on their Sony Australia website inviting potential customers to sign up and be notified as soon as information comes to hand, something the company usually only does with the launch of a product imminent.
There’s very little information on the sign-up page, a simple form asking you for your First and Last Name, and your Email address, in return for filling in your details, Sony will let you know about the ‘latest announcements from Sony about pre-orders, availability and pricing’. The tablet has been rumoured for launch this month (November) but hasn’t been picked up for distribution by any carriers (at this stage), but we’re definitely trying to find out.
After the shockingly high price announcement for the HTC built Nexus 9, the common recourse for many people has been to look at the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, and to be honest, there’s nothing in the Sony tablet that you can generally fault – especially with that IP65/68 rating. If the price is right, Sony could be onto a real winner with this tablet, we’ll just have to wait and see.
It looks like a giant Xperia phablet. The home screen doesn’t quite look right for a tablet but the unit looks well built and high quality.
Not on top of my my to buy list.
I’m interested.
Phone and Messaging icons in the dock? eh?
If it’s the LTE version it might do calls and text. My galaxy note 10.1 2014 LTE does both.
