LG has been beavering away on the Lollipop update for the G3 since even before the official code push to AOSP began. Screenshots of the work in progress popped up just a couple of days ago of the work in progress, and now LG has announced the update is ready to go…at least in Poland.
The update will begin pushing to G3 handsets in Poland this week, followed by ‘other key markets in the near future’. LG will also announce an upgrade schedule for other LG Mobile devices in the near future. This timely response is enough for LG to claim ‘First’ in the race to bring Android 5.0 to non-Nexus hardware. Indeed, if LG begins early this week, they may even beat Google who has yet to start pushing the OTA updates to their Nexus devices.
In terms of what the update will bring, LG advised :
Of course we’ll have to see how it goes here in Australia, with carriers needing to perform their tests first – and none of the carriers are listing the update as even in testing yet. But, if you purchased the phone outright through a retailer, you may get it slightly faster. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this one, KitKat ran just great on the G3, so hopefully LG can make Lollipop fly.
Hi guys, I recently bought from france an unlocked LGG3out of PixMania.com but it came from Australia as the version is v10l-AUS-XX, but in order to use it I had to root it, so I can’t have OTA. Is lollipop available on this version (so I can unroot and download it)
I wished I stayed on KK, got the update last week and so far I’m just disappointed in it. Overheat issues when using, battery drain faster. Some LG ‘features’ are gone, like the Google Now Quickmemo screenshot shortcut. I’m seriously considering reverting back to KK…
I am in the same case as you Cesar, bought it outside Australia and the version is V10l-AUS-XX. I heard there will be no lollipop for this version??? Now that doesn’t make sense…. Till now I am on KK.
When it is starting to push Android L. I am Vodafone user and still there is no updates !!! Anyone have received any update?
The Polish version of the G3 is most likely the same D855 that we have, meaning that the flashable KDZ file (once available) will probably be flashable on our phones.
There’s also a leak of a pre-release version of it floating around on XDA.
all carrier devices will be done via the carrier, only unlocked devices will get it first either ota or flash
I got my G3 through optus. There doesn’t appear to be any bloatware on it apart from an optus welcoming screen and a MyOptus app which can be uninstalled. Does this mean the update skips carrier approval or does it still go through optus even if there is no optus bloat?
Still has to go through Optus
Ah ok cheers, amazed they are rolling it out potentially the same time as some nexus devices
