The ultimate ‘Selfie’ phone from HTC, the Desire Eye, looks set to launch imminently, with the phone now showing as available for purchase on the JB Hifi website.
The phone which sports dual 13MP front and rear facing cameras, as well as front facing flash, will sell outright from JB for $799. The phone is available in Coral Red from JB Hifi, but the phone was also launched in Blue. The Desire Eye is also IPX7 certified, meaning it’s dust proof and water resistant up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Other specs included on the Desire Eye include :

The Desire Eye features editing tools, including one-touch editing that includes adding ‘beautification’ effects as you pose. You can also take a selfie using ‘Auto-Selfie’ mode which will let you capture your selfie using your voice or by smiling. With a wide-angle lens on the front-facing camera you should also be able to catch all the people in your shot.
The Desire Eye is showing as available for delivery within 5-9 working days, or available for in-store pickup if ordered by 3PM the same day. We’ll be calling a couple of stores in the morning to check general availability and to see if there’s any stock in stores. We’re looking forward to seeing the HTC Desire Eye in Australia shortly, and if it’s showing up on the JB Hifi site, then you can assume wider availability won’t be too far behind.
The strength of the Desire Eye isn’t in its 13MP cameras but its unibody design and flagship-baiting specifications. The excellent screen and front-facing speakers mean this handset punches above its weight.
I have been very eager to buy this phone. But $799, OUCH!! That is over priced.
The front and back facing cameras were touted to be spectacular. However they have received pleasant reviews, but nothing amazing. I wouldn’t be spending $799 on this one. HTC you have missed the mark.
well that is ripping ppeople off, this device sells for $13990 NTD, whch is just a bit over than $500 oz dollar, I can only say $799 is a big ask

Hardware specs wise, that is a very tempting device. But with it being a Sense OS device, no sale.
Sense is a brilliant skin, nice clean and fluid UX. HTC have been great on updates lately both with Android updates and moving their apps to the Play Store. Why would it deter you from buying it?
Because this is a Sense OS device, and not a GPE device.
As far as I am concerned about HTC stuff, lose the Sense OS, and then we’ll talk.
Once again with that negativity. Stop being ignorant, you know sense isn’t an OS, it’s just a skin that looks different to stock Android. It works remarkably well, it’s smooth, and is pleasing to the eye, what more could you need? Getting updates instantly shouldn’t be a priority on these devices. You will wait a couple of months or so, because you want it to work stable when you update it right?
I regard things like TouchWiz, Sense, and EMUI as being OSes, as users of these learn how to use the settings and controls specific to these things, rather than learning how to use Android.

Up till late last week, my main phone was an LG P500 Optimus One, on Optus. The earpiece speaker in it started playing up badly, so I’ve temporarily replaced it with a Huawei Y320. The intended long term replacement for the P500 was to have been the Optus LG P713go Optimus L7 II. However root could not be obtained on that device, even 2 months after purchase. All the ones you’ve mentioned are cheapy phones anyway, so why would you even consider stepping up to an $800 phone? You always say “no sale” no matter what it is.
Jeni it is alway no sale and you are not going to buy anything anyway, nothing is ever good enough, so I agree enough already for months now people have been telling you this. Just say wow would be nice without Sense skin, you don’t need to tell us you are not going to buy it and it isn’t good enough because we know that already, nothing ever is for you.
