The Nexus 6 is still not available in Australia, despite assurances from Motorola that the phone would arrive in November, with pre-sales on Google Play in October. The phone is available for pre-order from third party suppliers in Australia, although at least one is advising shipping has been delayed till January. A new contender has shown up, claiming they have the Nexus 6 in stock and ready to ship.
Online store ThinkOfUs has advised that they have the Nexus 6 in-stock in both Midnight Blue & Cloud White, with 32GB and 64GB options available. ThinkOfUs is asking $790.00 for the 32GB model, while the 64GB model will set you back $890. There’s an additional $24 shipping charge on top no matter which one you go with and ThinkOf Us is advising they have the devices ready to ship, with a 7-10 day lead time.
Hold your horses though, because ThinkOfUs has advised that the units they are shipping are the US model. On the specs section for the Nexus 6, ThinkOfUs are advertising the following network support for the phone they’re selling:
- 2G: 900/1800
- 3G: 850 (NextG)/900/2100
- 4G LTE: 700/850/1700/1800/1900/2600
LTE bands can be a tricky minefield though. The 700MHz network we’re using here in Australia is Band 28, which the International version of the Nexus 6 supports, but the US version doesn’t and ThinkOfUs don’t actually list which 700MHz band is included, but if it’s the US version, it won’t be compatible.
To refresh everyone’s memory, this is what the band support on the XT1103 (US version) and the XT1100 (International Version) look like :
The US version of the Nexus 6, model #: XT1103, will ship with the following bands :
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/25/26/29/41
CA DL: Bands: B2-B13, B2-B17, B2-29, B4-B5,B4-B13, B4-B17, B4-B29
While the International version of the Nexus 6, model #: XT1100 will ship with :
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
CDMA: not supported
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/9/19
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/9/19/20/28/41
CA DL: B3-B5, B3-B8
If you live in an area which mainly supports the 1800MHz LTE Band(Band 3) and don’t require much else, you should be right, but if you want more, you will probably be better off waiting for Google Play, or approaching Yatango or Kogan who will both have the International version of the Nexus 6.
If you’re sick of the waiting game, you can jump over to ThinkOfUs and check out the 32GB or 64GB version of the Nexus 6 and make up your own mind.
I’m still waiting for me phone… i ordered this on the 2nd of december saying lead time for 10-12 days. Now after that time i ask them for an update and then they say 2 weeks? these guys are dodgy in saying they have stock. Won’t be buying from them ever again.
General question – why are do some people prefer the Nexus 6 to Nate 4 – its same price (discounted on say Kogan $849) when the Note trounces the Nexus in every category, except its a 5.95″ screen to a 5.7″, thoughts.
Because the nexus runs stock Android and the Note 4 runs Touchwiz, which historically is bloated and can be laggy.

I’ve bit the bullet and bought a white nexus 6 32gb from thinkofus. Im cancelling my handtec order. In communication with Handtec the estimated time they expected the phone has gone from end of November, to 5th December and now 22nd december. I think the u.s model maybe the only chance to get nexus 6 this year the way things are going. Will be very hard to resell US version in 12-24 months from now when a new one comes out.
If it works in Australia, and especially if it picks up some kind of 4G I don’t think the average consumer will care.
I contacted ThinkOfUs, and they says the phone will be shipped by Monday, But I am not sure whether I will be able to use LTE. Need you guys help…I am staying in Sydney and use Optus Network…will this phone work on optus network..?
Hi Manish. If the information supplied by ThinkOfUs is correct and the phone runs the 1800MHz network, you should be fine to use the Optus LTE network in Sydney. But, there are caveats. Optus is currently running a secondary LTE network on the 2300MHz frequency using FD-LTE called the ‘4G Plus’ Network and this version of the phone will not work on that network. It will also not be compatible with the 700MHz network that Optus will begin broadly rolling out in January (and has been trialling in places).
