a52_Desire-826_announce_rev2-desktopHTC has taken the wraps off its new Desire handset, which it promoted in the lead-up to CES 2015. Dubbed the Desire 826, this new mid-range Android phone features a 5.5″ screen with 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, a 2,600mAh battery, 1.7GHz 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 CPU, and 13MP front and rear cameras.

As you can see, the Desire 826 continues HTC’s trend with a high-resolution front-facing camera for glorious self indulgence. There will be a second version released which features a 4MP Ultrapixel front-facing camera for better low-light performance, for those who take photos of themselves in the dark.

Out of the box, the Desire 826 will feature Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC Sense, making it the first HTC device to run Lollipop from new. There’s no information on pricing or availability, but it looks as if its headed to most Asian markets come end of January in a range of colours including white, red, blue and grey.

Feature-wise, the Desire 826 also features front-facing stereo speakers and anti-slip soft sides. 2GB of RAM provides the memory, with MicroSD for storage expansion. The laundry list includes WiFi, 3G and 4G LTE, GPS, NFC and some Dolby audio enhancements.

Nice to see a mid-range phone with 2gb or RAM. That’s what has been holding me back from a Moto G. As toast said, if they can keep this around $400 to challenge the Nexus 5…

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The moto g doesn’t need 2gb of ram. It’s an incredibly well optimised device.

I owned one. It desperately needed that extra gig. If you are a simple user, its fine. If you want to listen to music whilst reading Chrome, things start shutting down in the background.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I gave one to my sister, and she uses it quite frequently, and she hasn’t complained of such things.

Nice. If the prices sticks in the $400’s like the older Desire 800’s, it would be quite desirable.

It says the phone has dual front-facing speakers – is that a typo? Can’t see any speaker grills in that picture.

jkl

If it’s like the Desire Eye the speaker grilles are black and hidden at the top and bottom of the screen. Really cool design.

Andrew

That’s really cool they are able to do that, but does it sound as good as the One’s speakers?
