Now that CES 2015 is mostly behind us (well, the good stuff is) the rumours ahead of MWC 2015 are starting to heat up a little. One particularly juicy rumour is that Samsung plans to launch a round smartwatch at MWC next month, allowing to enter a fairly limited club at the moment inhabited by the LG G Watch R and Moto 360.
What little we know comes of reports of a device dubbed the SM-R720, codenamed Orbis within the company. According to these reports, the watch runs Samsung’s Tizen operating system, and not Android Wear. While that’s a little disappointing, we know that some of Samsung’s previous smartwatches running Tizen haven’t been too shabby at all, so this could still be quite a promising device.
Samsung has filed patents earlier this year which included a round smartwatch design, giving this rumour some credibility.
The LG G Watch R and Moto 360 are both fairly well regarded devices, so the SM-R720 enters a competitive space, but Samsung has been known to pull some fairly good results out of a hat, so it might be lining up for a strong entry.
We’re as excited as anyone to see what Samsung manages with this device, so fingers crossed it won’t be too long until MWC 2015 and a reveal!
ugh.. if its not wear, i aint wearing it.
