If you’ve used a Chromecast, you’ll be aware that the dongle has no external network connections, leaving you to rely on WiFi. While WiFi can be fickle there are a few tricks to getting better reception, but Speed4cast gives you a way to test your network speed, to give you a better indication of your speed.
Speed4cast allows you to cast a network test to your Chromecast, which will test for ‘download speed, upload speed, latency and jitter of chromecast’. All fairly helpful information, Upload and Download speeds are pretty self-explanatory, but Jitter is probably a little unknown; Jitter is the increments of time between packets being received, higher time between packets can indicate network congestion.
Speed4cast is a free app available in Google Play, so if you’ve been having issues with your Chromecast streaming it may be time to gather a bit of empirical data from your device. Try it out now and see what you think.
