Note Edge Hero
The Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge has begun, and rather than beginning in a far flung corner of Europe like Poland as seems to have become the norm, it’s arriving first here in Australia.

SamMobile is reporting that the Galaxy Note Edge (SM-N915G) is receiving the Android 5.0 update as a 1018.12MB OTA. The update brings with it an update to the Samsung version of Material Design as well as security features, new multi-tasking layout and according to SamMobile better battery life, security and performance.

If you have the retail version of the Note Edge, then go to Settings > About phone > Software update menu to see if the update is available for your phone.

As this update appears to only be being fed to the retail version of the Galaxy Note Edge, it’s time to see what the carrier based models are up to. The Note Edge was picked up by all three carriers here in Australia, but the news for the Lollipop update for those models is less than good. The software update pages for Telstra, Vodafone and Optus list no updates for the Note Edge, or even acknowledge that the update is in testing.

If a protracted wait for carrier testing isn’t your thing and you have a working knowledge of Odin, the update can be flashed to your phone with the right precautions using the Firmware available through the SamMobile Firmware section.

This article made me think of what handsets Ausdroid readers have…Any chance of a reader survey? Would also be interested to find out after the break down what amount of users are rooted or running custom ROMs (I understand a survey of such nature would not be easy to implement bit I think the results would be interesting)

Chris

We have run reader surveys in the past, and we may well run another shortly. It’s on the list of things to do (but the time involved in setting up the survey has been a bit prohibitive).

Anthony

No love for the non-edge edition?? 🙁
