HTC has announced today that they will be launching the Desire 820 on the Optus Network next week and the modest price of $499.
The Desire 820 comes with a 5.5 inch HD display with an 8MP front facing camera to make those selfies pop, and a 13MP rear camera. Inside, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s first ever 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with 16GB storage and a MicroSD slot that’ll take up to 128GB. It also comes with HTC BoomSound front-facing speakers and the Zoe app pre-installed on the device. Its design doesn’t break with HTC’s recent efforts, but adds a nice contrast in its “tuxedo” colour, mixing black and white surfaces. The Dot View Case – launched with last year’s One M8 – will also be available for the Desire 820.
HTC is aiming the phone at the mid range market and with the outright price set at a modest $499, it’ll go up against Samsung’s Galaxy A3 in that space. Ben Hodgson, Country Manager for HTC Australia says that “users are increasingly looking for bigger screens, faster processors and network speeds, and outstanding battery life. They’re creating and consuming rich video and want greater freedom to personalise their smartphones.”
You can buy the Desire 820 outright for a modest $499, or on a plan from Optus – HTC recommends the Optus My Plan $35 which, with an additional $5 handset repayment per month will run you a total of $40 per month for a 2-year contract.
