LG
LG’s G4 handset is the next big name phone to launch, the leaks have been coming faster and faster, so by the time the phone launches, which is rumoured to be at the end of April, we should know all about it. Another tidbit of information has shown up today in the form of an entry for the phone on benchmarking site GFXBench.

While anything showing up on a benchmarking site pre-release is subject to suspicion, it’s possible that this entry for a phone calling itself the LG 500x (LG G4) could be legit, but it’s the slightly weird CPU that’s listed that drew our attention. While rumours for the phone have so far been fairly strongly hinting at the Octa-Core Snapdragon 810 processor, the benchmark lists a hexa-core (6-core) Snapdragon 808 processor.

LG has been favouring Qualcomm processors since the LG Optimus G, going so far as to announce that their G series phones would be going with them for the forseeable future. The pairing of LG and Qualcomm has been fairly complimentary so far, but LG is known to be developing their own in-house processors for use in smartphones, so this could be the start of a move away from the top-end Qualcomm processors – or it could just be an elaborate fake.

Other interesting specs listed on the GFXBench entry include a QHD 5.5″ display, with Android 5.1 pre-loaded. 3GB RAM and what appears to be 32GB of storage (most flagship 32GB phones this year have had 23GB of space after Android 5.0 was loaded) are included. Camera wise it appears the 13MP shooter on the G3 has been updated to what’s listed as a 15MP camera (but is probably a 16MP) and a 7MP camera will show up on the front.

The excitement for an LG G4 is growing and we can’t wait to check it out when it launches.

I guess lg want to use this template to sell new Nexus 6 this year at higher price probably the same as Samsung galaxy s6. No way. Will buy a huawei nexus phone.

I’d say it’s the G4. What other phone would have a 5.5″ screen and be released with Android 5.1? They may have switched to the Snapdragon 808 due to heating issues, although I recall that LG originally claimed that it had not experienced heating issues in its testing. Perhaps they’re going to try and outsell the HTC M8 by claiming that the 808 is superior in that respect.

The G3 apparently has ordinary battery life, so if LG is sticking with the QHD screen, let’s hope that the battery has increased from 3000mAh.

I disagree. I think it’s not the G4 proper, it might be a variant. Remember that, just like it’s main Korean rival, LG also bombards the market with lots of variants of its flagships in different screen sizes. QHD would be a surprise in a lower variant but still not impossible. I’d be really surprised if they didn’t use anything but the latest processor (i.e. SD 810 or later) in their flagship. It would just send the wrong (marketing) message. Remember that these companies are always in a spec race so “minor” heating issues on the latest chip wouldn’t deter… Read more »
