Australia has been seriously lacking in availability when it comes to Nvidia’s Shield line of devices. Nvidia has previously spoken about bringing their products to Australia and a new Shield Portable console may be just the product to kick off the launch.
New entries in both the Wi-Fi Alliance, and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group certification websites show that Nvidia has a new Shield device on the way.
While there isn’t a full spec list available on either site, there are a few details that can be gleaned from the entries. Firstly the device will have 802.11a/b/g/n/ac dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1. The device will also be running Android 5.0, but given Nvidia’s fast update schedule with Shield devices you should expect that to change fairly quickly.
Of course Nvidia recently announced their latest flagship Tegra X1 processor, and Nvidia has also announced the processor would be used in their upcoming Shield Console with the Tegra X1 processor, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for an updated Shield Console to use the processor as well.
We’ll have to wait a little while longer for an official announcement and we will of course ask Nvidia for a progress update on bringing Shield to Australia.
