Asus announced their Zenfone 2 line at CES back in January, but the actual rollout of devices has been relatively slow. Asus has entered one of their biggest markets yet with the phone, announcing the phone will be available for sale in the US and Canada from today.
Asus is launching the Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) in the US for US$199 and US$299 with different specs. The lower priced model, will come with a 5.5″ FullHD screen, Intel Z3560 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB Storage, the higher end model will come with the same 5.5″ FullHD display, an upgraded Intel Z3580 processor, a massive 4GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
While the phones have begun appearing on NewEgg, Amazon and other retailers, if you don’t want to import them – and you can because they support the Band 3 (1800MHz) LTE which is all over Australia – then you shouldn’t have long to wait, because the Zenfone 2 will be coming to Australia.
Which model of the Zenfone 2 we’ll be seeing here, remember as well as the ZE551ML models launched in the US, there’s even lower end ZE550ML devices – one of which Scott recently checked out. The ZE550ML has similar specs but comes with a 720×1280 resolution display.
When the phone will launch here in Australia isn’t really certain yet, but they have given a 2nd half of 2015 window in their statement:
We’re pleased to confirm that ZenFone 2 is scheduled to officially launch by ASUS Australia in the second half of 2015 through authorised retailers and dealers.. We’re working hard to ensure devices are compatible for the Australian telecommunications infrastructure to provide an optimised and smooth user experience for the launch of our first smartphone in the Australian market.
We’re very much looking forward to the launch of the Zenfone 2 in Australia and we’ll update you as soon as Asus has anything further to announce.
