OPPO R7 OPTUS
After launching in September last year selling handsets outright through their website, Oppo has today announced the next phase of their entry to the Australian market, working with Optus to sell the Oppo R7 on contract.

The Oppo R7 went on-sale last week for $449 from new partner Dick Smith Electronics, as well as from their online store Oppomobile.com.au – though it’s currently listed there for $459. The move to a carrier partner is a big one for Oppo, though with Optus offering the Silver R7 for $0 upfront on a $40 plan which includes 500MB of data, as well as unlimited calls and texts to numbers in Australia.

Michael Tran, Marketing Director at OPPO Mobile Australia said,

We’re delighted to be working with Optus to bring the OPPO R7 to market. Australia has always been a nation of early adopters and our partnership with Optus provides yet another channel for them to experience the OPPO R7 style in a flash.

Ben White, Vice President Mobile Marketing at Optus said

OPPO puts real craftsmanship at the heart of their products. We’ve seen how well OPPO has done in other markets, so we’re delighted to be able to bring the device to Optus customers in Australia. The R7 is a welcomed addition to our range of devices and I’m sure it will be well received by our customers.

The Oppo R7 is a stylish looking handset, with an aluminium body that also packs in a 5″ FullHD screen as well as their much vaunted VOOC Flash Charge charging system, which can give up to 2 hours of talk time from just 5 minutes of charging.

Optus is the first carrier partnership for Oppo in Australia, and if things go to plan, we may see more handsets down the track. With the Oppo R7 Plus arriving in September, a carrier partnership could see a much wider distribution of phones to Australians.

If you’re in the market for an Oppo R7, you can check it out at DSE, or in store at Optus where stock permits. Optus hasn’t updated their website as yet, but we’re told the Oppo R7 will be appearing there later today.
