Asus didn’t just announce a slew of new Zenfones and a new watch at IFA, but a number of updates for its Zenpad tablet series too. Starting with wallet-friendly prices (the base model is EUR199), the new Zenpad series has a number of variants so you’ll find one that suits your needs – be they fashionable or technical.
The ZenPad S 8.0, Zenpad 8.0 and ZenPad 10 share a number of world-first features, from tablets with 4GB of RAM powering them, DTS-HD audio decoding, HDTV image processing and customisation options. All the new tablets feature Asus’ “Visual Master” screen technology, which the company says brings greater contrast and sharpness.
Asus had a number of suggestions for what the “S” in the ZenPad S 8.0 means, but they seemed to like Super, and with the tablet’s spec list it’s hard to argue. It’s the first tablet with 4GB of RAM on board, with an Intel Atom processor running the show and a crisp QXGA (2048×1536) IPS screen. The tablet also supports Asus’ Z Stylus, and has DTS-HD premium sound. The Zenpad S 8.0 is starting at €269.
The Zenpad 8.0 runs on Intel Atom processor with 2GB of RAM. Asus has brought in a series of interchangeable covers with elegant leather patterns, diamond-cut highlights and a checkered diamond pattern on some edges to really make your tablet pop. For cases, you’ve got the option of the Zen Clutch which encloses the tablet like a clutch bag for protection, a more standard Zen Case, and a Power Case which houses an extra battery for your tablet. Its starting price in Europe will be €199.
There’s also the Audio Cover, which holds 6 (!) speakers and a subwoofer, and can last 6 hours on a charge. It’ll be sold with the Zenpad 8.0 in a “Zenpad Theater” bundle at €249.
Finally, the Zenpad 10 brings style and performance with front-facing speakers, again powered by an Intel Atom CPU with 2GB of RAM. There’s a number of optional accessories to bring extra functionality like the Asus Audio Dock, which brings a detachable keyboard and Bluetooth speakers. It’s also compatible with the Z Stylus. It’s starting at €299.
We don’t have local availability for the new Asus Zenpad range yet, and it usually doesn’t follow too quickly. We’re anticipating a chance to go hands-on with the tablets over the weekend at Asus’ IFA booth, so if there’s anything you’d like us to check out drop a note in the comments section below.
