ZenWatch 2

ASUS has announced today that its ZenWatch 2 Android Wear watch is destined for Australia. Like the original ZenWatch, the second generation is pitched as a stylish and personalised wearable, powered by Android Wear, produced in partnership with Google.

The ASUS ZenWatch 2 is available in two sizes and three colour combinations, with a total of five strap and colour combinations making it very customisable. On top of these options are the standard inclusions, such as Gorilla Glass 3 for added protection from scratches and damage, a stylish metal crown and high quality construction and design.

The two sizes will accommodate those with smaller wrists and large, with the standard 49 x 41mm model with a 22mm strap, and a smaller model which accepts 18mm watch bands and measures in at 45 x 37mm.

Given that the smaller model has a smaller display, its resolution has been downscaled appropriately from 320 x 320 on the regular 1.63-inch display size, to 280 x 280 on a 1.45-inch display producing 273 ppi, 5 less than the larger model.

ZenWatch 2 in both its new guises are noticeably smaller than the original ZenWatch, which came in at 51 x 39.9mm, however it was much slimmer than both new models at 7.9mm, compared to 9.4mm and 10.4mm on the standard and small models respectively.

Pricing will range from $299 to $369 depending on the model chosen, and the ZenWatch 2 will be available from the ASUS eShop and select Harvey Norman Stores. The leather strap option will be priced from $299, and the premium, metal strap from $369. Both models will be available from next week, 1 December 2015.
