The Pride events celebrating the LGBTQ community have been ongoing over the last few weeks in over 25 countries. Google has always been a massive supporter of LGBTQ rights, and they tend to do some stuff around Pride time and this year is no different.
To start with, on the Google Blog, they’ve shown off a new 360° video they’ve released that documents the truly global face of the LGBTQ community. It’s a montage from LGBTQ events around the world you can watch in YouTube 360 on your phone or desktop, or in Google Cardboard. The video shows of local Pride parades from 25 countries around the world using a rig made up of GoPro cameras (though suspiciously not the Jump rig they announced at I/O last year). The video is up on YouTube now for your viewing pleasure.
Google is also showing support for Pride in other places too, if you do a search on Google relating to LGBTQ you’ll see a Pride flag and back-end.
The search terms that have been found that cause the flag to appear include, but may not be limited to:
- LGBT
- gay
- homosexual
- lesbian
- transgender
- transsexual
- bisexual
- queer
- agender
- asexual
- pansexual
- genderqueer
- drag king
- drag queen
- pride month
Lastly, if you’re a Gmail user and want a new theme, Google has announced there is now a Pride theme for you to install. It’s free and if you like the look of the theme you can head to goo.gl/yujKDy to add it to your Gmail now.
Pride is a big thing, and it’s basically acceptance of everyone, letting them be free to be themselves without fear, something we all want really. Check out all the neat things Google has done and see if you can find any more.
