It’s official, Samsung has begun inviting media to an August 2nd event in New York City at 11am EDT and the rumoured change to the Note 7 name – skipping the note 6 – is confirmed.
The invite is basic, but that small, yet prominent blue 7 on the invite basically confirms the device announced at the event will be the Note 7. Samsung have further confirmed the change on their site, explaining the need for the change:
First and foremost though, you might be curious as to why it’s called Galaxy Note7 instead of Galaxy Note6. There are a couple reasons why. First, the Galaxy Note7 will complement our Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and unify our product portfolio. Second, the Galaxy Note7 will minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung, and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone.
The phone hasn’t got a huge amount of surprises, we already know what it looks like thanks to Evan Blass (@evleaks) after he leaked it earlier this month.

What’s in the Note 7 is the question? There’s been rumours galore, including hints that the phone will include an iris scanner for stronger biometric security. Under the hood, we should see Samsung again using their Exynos processor, but a Snapdragon 820 variant for selected markets is also possible. Other rumoured specs include:

Have you been waiting for the Galaxy Note 7?
Looks like it’s gonna be an awesome phone Dan, I’m just concerned it’s gonna be close to $1500 here. Can’t wait to check it out though
I’m with you. Definitely going to be expensive, but the Note series are usually pretty nice to use.
I can’t wait to get robbed with my $1.5K Note 7 while playing Pokemon Go at some isolated park somewhere near Frankston.
Lol, sounds good to me.
