If you’re in South Australia and experiencing an issue with Telstra at the moment, you’re not alone. This follows a number of infrastructure based outages that Telstra have suffered over the last 12 months.

This time around it’s not Telstra’s infrastructure that is to blame, its thanks to a contractor who clearly hasn’t followed the mantra “Dial before you dig”, taking out fibre optic cables and creating a significant outage involving 3G, 4G and ADSL service between Brighton and Marion (for those from other states, that’s a fair area). As yet there is no confirmed resolution time for the issue as it will involve re-routing connections or rebuilding fibre in the area.

If you’re in the area and desperate for phone or data, it might be worth getting a pre-paid SIM with one of the other providers until Telstra services are restored.

If you’re in the area, let us know how heavily you’re being affected by this outage

I do not think even Telstra ever does a dial before you dig check as a few years ago when the house next door to my parents was being built it was cut 3 times in total once by Telstra. The only guys that seemed to have done a proper check was the guys who put in the sewerage and knew where everything was and did not damage a thing.
