Qualcomm has made more announcements at MWC Shanghai 2017, announcing an update to the Snapdragon 400 series with a new processor: the Snapdragon 450.
The Snapdragon 450 will be found in the more budget end of the smartphone range, adding improvements to the existing Snapdragon 435 with a 25 percent speed increase.
The Snapdragon 450 will also improve power performance over the 435 with Qualcomm stating that the 450 will also see an additional four hours of usage. The Snapdragon 435 will also be supporting the Quick Charge 3.0 that can charge a phone from flat to 80% charge in just over half an hour.
Qualcomm is also bringing a better camera experience to the budget end of their range with support for dual-camera setups of either 13MP each, or a single 21MP sensor.
Speed improvements for the modem in the budget handset range will also get a boost with the inclusion of Qualcomm’s X9 LTE modem. The X9 LTE modem is capable of 300 Mbps and 150 Mbps download/upload speeds.
Qualcomm will include USB3.0 support, and as a bonus, the displays in lower end smartphones will get better with the SD450 capable of supporting FullHD (1920×1080) displays – something the SD435 was not capable of.
Qualcomm has advised that the SD450 will begin sampling with manufacturers next quarter with devices running the SoC expected to appear later this year.
